New research has mapped how an individual’s brain changes during treatment for depression. The study, which was conducted by scientists at the University of British Columbia, aimed to find out what happens in the brain when a person undergoes repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. This non-invasive treatment uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in an individual’s dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. This region of the brain is involved in regulating mood.
